Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad

IIM Ahmedabad was founded in 1961 by the Government of India together with the Government of Gujarat and local industrialists, with Dr Vikram Sarabhai among its key founders. Harvard Business School helped in its early years, which is where the institute's love of the case method comes from.

Its two-year MBA, still widely known as the PGP, is the most competitive management programme in India, with admission through CAT followed by the institute's own evaluation. It also runs a one-year MBA for experienced professionals (PGPX), an MBA in food and agri-business management, and doctoral programmes.

The old campus, built in exposed brick and designed by the American architect Louis Kahn, is a landmark in its own right. Its Louis Kahn Plaza and the long arches of the dorms appear in architecture textbooks around the world.
