About IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi is one of India's leading engineering and technology institutes, located in Hauz Khas in the capital. It is strong across engineering, computer science and management, and it has opened a campus abroad in Abu Dhabi.
IIT Delhi started in 1961 as a college of engineering and was declared an Institute of National Importance in 1963. It sits in Hauz Khas in south Delhi, which means its students live inside the city rather than outside it, with the industry, government and startup networks that come with that.
It is consistently in the top five of the NIRF tables. In 2025 it was fourth overall, and its Department of Management Studies was ranked fourth among management institutions, alongside the IIMs.
IIT Delhi has also gone international. In 2024 it began teaching at IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi, its first campus outside India, which tells you how the institute sees itself: a national institution with a global footprint.
